New Guard Rail Smashed

Was out of town all weekend, so was surprised to see this smashed guard rail when I rode by Lake Caroline this morning! 

I couldn't find anything about it in the news so called the police and all they said was on the night of October 15, 2022, a car hit it. They didn't know if anyone was hurt. 

The guard rail is fairly new as the city has been fixing up the park area there.

A friend who lives near here texted, “Saturday at about 3 a.m. a dude in a Honda pickup hit it.”

(I asked if anyone was hurt?)

“No. The crash woke me.  I was sleeping with the windows open.  Cora (his dog) was barking madly. I ran up to Beach Drive and the driver was out of his truck walking around.  He was not injured.  It was a single car accident.  The driver said someone stepped into the cross walk and he slammed his breaks.  The park sprinklers were wetting the road.  The wet road near the rail caused a 180 degree spin of his truck.  He was driving west, but stopped facing east.  His truck stopped facing east, next to the broken rail. So, looked like the driver was moving too fast, heading west, not watching the road, some idiot stepped out in front of him without using the crossing light and he swurved to miss the person.  Oh, at 3am!! Hey stupid people!!  The park closes at 9pm every night of the week.”

So glad no one was hurt!
